Marathon Runner
Boston Marathon Celebrated
in New Song: “Marathon Runner”
"Marathon Runner" celebrates The Boston Marathon and specifically honors the memory of long-time Boston Marathon runner and winner, Johnny Kelley.
Condon says, " Johnny Kelley represents the epitome of the Marathon Runner. He ran in the race for decades, winning twice, in 1935 and 1945, and finishing 2nd seven times, with 18 top-10 finishes. We are all Marathon runners in our everyday lives -- setting goals, racing to meet them. He's the role model for all of us for persistence and perseverance."
Boston PopSearch 2004 Winner, Tracy Silva, performed "Marathon Runner," at the 2005 Marathon Pre-race ceremonies, April 18, 2005 in Athletes Village, in Hopkinton, MA, before a crowd of thousands of runners.
Tracy also performed the song live on New England Cable News (NECN)'s News Day that afternoon, where Primetime News Anchor Amanda Rosseter interviewed songwriter Maureen Condon about her inspiration for the song.
Scott Wahle, co-host of CBS4-TV News in the Morning, interviewed Tracy and Maureen at the Marathon, and WLVI-TV Channel 56 Reporter Terrel Harris aired a feature segment on Tracy, Maureen and the song, on Boston's WB56 Ten O'Clock News, Sunday, April 17, 2005.
Tracy Silva has performed to audiences throughout the Boston area, including a crowd of close to one million last summer - with a regional broadcast on CBS4-TV - during the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on July 4th.
The lyrics and music for Marathon Runner were created by Maureen Condon, Copyright 2005, and the arrangement and orchestration of the song, as heard on NECN and on this web site, is by Will Blouin.
